WE WILL PAY YOU SOON, GOVERNOR ASSURES CONTRACTORS

Nandi County governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat has assured contractors that their monies will be paid soon. Addressing hundreds of suppliers and contractors who paid him a courtesy call at his office, the governor thanked them for their maturity, patience and civility during the entire process. “All contract works were subjected to inspection, assessment and verification with the objective of ascertaining the number of projects undertaken and scope of work.” the governor said. The exercise that has taken almost two months was completed last week.
Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Julius Ketter and Edwin Montei thanked the governor for according them an opportunity to raise their concerns. “As our father, we thank you for listening to us” said Montei. “We will stand by you all the way” he added.
The governor was accompanied by senior county officials who included County Secretary Francis Ominde, CEC Finance, planning and ICT Charles Muge, CO roads and infrastructure Eng. Alex Buigutt and the leader of majority at the county assembly Hon. Francis Menjo.

COUNTY FIRST LADY CALLS FOR SUPPORT, SHUN AGAINST STIGMITIZATION OF PERSONS WITH HIV/AIDS

Nandi County First Lady HE Mrs. Florence Lagat has called on residents to shun from stigmatizing on people persons living with HIV/AIDS.

Speaking during a function in marking the World Aids Day held at Kaiboi Technical Institute in Mosop Sub County Mrs Lagat said contraction of HIV/AIDs is not the end of live and the society should learn to encourage those people living with HIV/AIDs to live positively, ‘’ contracting Aids is not a death sentence’’ she added.

According to the County’s First Lady through the efforts of the National Government and the devolved County government, the rate of HIV/AIDS prevalence in Nandi County has substantially dropped from 12% in 2004, to 4.3% in the year 2014.

Moreover, she highlighted widely measures the County government has undertaken so far, in partnership with the National government, and the Private sector, in ending the rate of HIV/AIDS infections.

The County has ensured that the 36 VCT Centers, 23 Health Facilities and 145 health care centers concerned with maternal health, are all able to provide care and treatment for persons living with HIV/AIDS.

Currently, 10, 977 patients have been admitted for care at these facilities to prevent death due to Aids-related illness. The successes arising from these measures are; the county has an ART (Anti-Retroviral Treatment) coverage of 82%, making Nandi County ranked 19 out of the 47 Counties, she added.

She also recognized the efforts made by His Excellency the President, Uhuru Kenyatta to end infections among adolescents and Youth through the ‘All in’ campaign launched early this year, to ensure a healthy and economically productive future. Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta has been instrumental in the support of maternal health care, eliminating HIV mother-child infections, through the ‘Beyond Zero’ campaign done annually.

On his part deputy governor Dominic Biwott recognized the private partners who have been supporting the government fighting the epidemic like Walter Reed, Ampath, World Vision, I Choose Africa and USAID.

He further reiterated the County government’s efforts in fighting the epidemic, adding that County through the Department of Health has made efforts to conduct awareness campaigns and it has done its part to ensure that hospitals and health facilities around the county have access to medicine and information regarding the prevention and Control of the disease.

He further, said that the government in January 2016 supplementary Budget will allocate some funds to support groups. In addition he encouraged the distribution of Medical supplies to these groups in order to fight Opportunistic Infections.

Present also were the CEC Public Health Matthew Rotich, Mosop Sub-County Administrator Mr Sammy Keter and Deputy County Commissioner Nandi North Mr Githeka .

NANDI COUNTY GOVERNOR MOURNS THE DEATH OF JOSEPH TENDENEI LETTING

 

Nandi County Governor H.E. Dr. Cleophas Lagat has described the passing on of Joseph Tendenei Letting as a great loss to Nandi County.

Speaking for the first time about Letting who was a scholar, administrator and politician, the governor said “I received the news regarding the death of Letting with disbelief, shock and I sympathies with the family he left behind.”

Letting passed on yesterday at Nairobi hospital where he was undergoing treatment. Letting who hails from Terige is a son of KapAkwaa family of the larger Kapchepkendi clan. He went to Kapsabet Boys and Makerere University, Uganda where he graduated in 1967.

He is credited with several development
programmes he initiated in Nandi County and beyond. For instance he was the founder and long serving chairman of Terige High school, Eldoret Polytechnic where he worked with the Governor first as a dean of students and later as a principal and Olessos Technical where he was the patron.

He also served as the Chairman of
Moi University council in the formative days. Letting who retired in 1994 after three decades of public service run successfully for Emgwen seat in 1997 and was latter appointed an assistant minister in the Ministry of Energy.

Governor Lagat described the departed letting as “a towering scholar, a renowned public administrator, a development colossus and a calculating politician”.
He added that “Death had robbed Nandi County a reliable son whose contribution to development would be dearly missed by all”.

But such is life. And as the inimitable
Shakespeare wrote, life is a stage and we all have our entries and exits. Letting came on stage, played his role and has bowed out. What is left is for posterity and we pray that his soul rests well in peace.

NANDI COUNTY GOVERNMENT TO SPONSOR 400 ATHLETES FOR THE KASS MARATHON SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY 15TH

Nandi County Government has announced that it will sponsor 400 athletes for the KASS Marathon scheduled for Sunday 15th.

Nandi County Deputy Governor Dominic Biwott has said that the county government has sponsored youth to participate in the event for the last two years and will also do it this year.“Nandi County Government will for the third year running sponsor 400 Youth in in this years KASS Marathon,” said Biwott.

The Deputy Governor said registration of the 400 athletes will start on Thursday at the county headquarters.He said he was delighted to see his government continue its support to athletics and sports in general.“We are proud to be associated with the nurturing of athletics talent in Kenya by supporting a strong and empowering platform for growth of youth talent from the grass root level,” Biwott added.KASS Marathon is an annual event that aims at nurturing young and potential athletes, who have later graduated to become world-class renowned athletes.

Addressing the faithfuls of newly created African Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese at the Kapsabet High School grounds, the Deputy President William Ruto said that Kenyans have a right to demand for accountability from their leaders.

“Kenyans have a right to demand for accountability and service delivery from their leaders,” said Ruto. “Everybody must take responsibility for what he/she has been given to perform at both the national and county levels,” he added.

The Deputy President said institutions charged with the responsibility of ensuring there was no corruption or wastage of public resources should not let Kenyans down. “Institutions, which have been given the mandate by the Constitution should take firm and decisive action against those found engaging in corruption, theft and misuse of public resources,” he said

Elgeyo-Marakwet Governor H.E Mr Tolgos was the Chief Guest during the official closing ceremony of the Nandi County Agricultural Show and Trade Fair,speaking during the event at Kapsabet Show ground, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor echoed the Nandi county for its unequivocal efforts as a county,he applauded the Nandi County through the leadership of Nandi County Governor H.E Dr Cleophas Lagat for being the first County in North Rift bloc to host the Investor Conference and Exhibition held last year.

Mr Tolgos further commended the County for being the Champions in dairy farming besides being the Source of Champions, for instance he cited that the residents of his County always rely on Nandi County For the best Dairy Cattle

On Nandi County being the Source of Champions,Mr Tolgos seconded the Nandi County Governor sentiments and congratulated Nandi for producing the 2015 Marathlon athlete of the year Mr Eliud Kipchoge.

OUR OWN NANDI COUNTY CHAMPION ELIUD KIPCHOGE NAMED AS THE 2015 MARATHON MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) named Eliud Kipchoge as the male winner of the AIMS Best Marathon Runner Award for 2015.

The awards were voted for by AIMS members, made up of more than 390 of the world’s leading and most prestigious distance races from more than 108
countries and territories.

The winners’ achievements were given global recognition on Friday (6) at the AIMS Best Marathon Runner (BMR) Award Gala in Athens, Greece. Kipchoge has won three of the biggest marathon events in the past 12 months. In October 2014 he won the Chicago Marathon in 2:04:11. Six months later, the 31-year-old Kenyan won the London Marathon in a
world-leading time of 2:04:42 before bettering that when winning the Berlin Marathon in September in 2:04:00, beating his personal best by five seconds.
“It is very special for me to have won the AIMS Best Marathon Runner Award,” said Kipchoge. “I am very proud of my achievements this year and this award

H.E THE GOVERNOR DR. LAGAT IN A BUSINESS MEETING LUNCH WITH BUSINESS STAKEHOLDERS

H.E the Governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat with Merali of Sameer Group of Companies and Nandi Tea Managing Director Mr Abdi during a business lunch meeting. The Sameer group and Nandi Tea Estates Ltd have pledged support for the County.

They will construct a State of the art Stadium in Nandi Hills and sponsor an International Marathon in Kapsabet starting 2016.

They have also promised to work with the County to develop Football Talent by sponsoring a Football Club.

Mr. Meralli further said that the Company is ready to look for a coach even from outside the country.

The Governor thanked the group for the support and promised the sponsors that the residents will make use of the facilities thus enhancing the County Sports Powerhouse actualization.

H.E the Governor later attended the Nandi County Agricultural Show and Trade Fair 2015 hosted by the County Government of Nandi at Kapsabet Show ground.

EDUCATION BOOST IN NANDI

Japan’s Deputy Ambassador to Kenya Mikio Mori has praised the close relationship between the duo States.
Mikio talked in Kapchemosin Primary school Kaptumo Nandi South Sub County at his official ground breaking ceremony to the expansion of the learning institution, agreements between Japan and Nandi County Government in seeing that school infrastructure were expanded to boost education across the County.
The contract for this project was earlier signed by Japan Ambassador to Kenya Tatsushi Terada and Mr. Limo Symon Peter, a representative of the Guarantee Organization Oasis Logistics Youth Group.
The project received a grant amounting to Kshs. 11M for the construction of 10 classrooms, 12 lavatories , installation of 4 water tanks and 250 pupil desks to Kipsiorori and Kapchemosin primary schools.
He was accompanied by a resident Marianne Kittany, Nandi County women representative Zipporah Kering , Aldai MP Cornelly Serem, Kaptumo Member of County Assembly Josphat Tarbei , Nandi County Commissioner Kang`ethe Thuku and officials from the County Government of Nandi and Oasis Logistics Youth Group.
