The County Government of Nandi through the Department of Water and in conjunction with Lake Victoria North Water Services Board has drilled two boreholes which will boost water supply in Mosoriot and Kabiemit markets .

Residents of the two trading centres have for a long time been faced with the problem of accessing clean water at their convenience, but with the newly drilled boreholes, they will enjoy the privilege of having clean water at their doorstep.

The County Executive in charge of Water and Natural Resources Dr. John Kipkorir Chumo who is also the Chairman of CECs in charge of Environment in Kenya said that the boreholes shall be operated by solar panels which will be installed.

“The two boreholes will add to several water projects we are already undertaking in the areas affected by water scarcity in Nandi county. Mosoriot borehole will yield up to 4,000 litres of water per hour whereas Kabiemit borehole will yield 9,000 litres per hour,” added Dr. Chumo.

He also urged the residents to make use of the rain by harvesting water for use in dry seasons.

Nandi Governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat said sinking of the boreholes will improve water supply to the residents of Mosoriot, Kabiemit and its environs and that water challenge will be a thing of the past in the next three months.

“Our people need water to ensure security to end poverty, to fight disease and maintain health, we need more safe water,” Dr. Lagat said.

He said his administration has invested heavily in providing water noting that access to safe water is a basic human right. He also stressed the importance of water in life, noting that it was the reason his government was committing a big chunk of its resources to achieving it.
