NANDI COUNTY GOVERNOR MOURNS THE DEATH OF JOSEPH TENDENEI LETTING

Nandi County Governor H.E. Dr. Cleophas Lagat has described the passing on of Joseph Tendenei Letting as a great loss to Nandi County.

Speaking for the first time about Letting who was a scholar, administrator and politician, the governor said “I received the news regarding the death of Letting with disbelief, shock and I sympathies with the family he left behind.”

Letting passed on yesterday at Nairobi hospital where he was undergoing treatment. Letting who hails from Terige is a son of KapAkwaa family of the larger Kapchepkendi clan. He went to Kapsabet Boys and Makerere University, Uganda where he graduated in 1967.

He is credited with several development
programmes he initiated in Nandi County and beyond. For instance he was the founder and long serving chairman of Terige High school, Eldoret Polytechnic where he worked with the Governor first as a dean of students and later as a principal and Olessos Technical where he was the patron.

He also served as the Chairman of
Moi University council in the formative days. Letting who retired in 1994 after three decades of public service run successfully for Emgwen seat in 1997 and was latter appointed an assistant minister in the Ministry of Energy.

Governor Lagat described the departed letting as “a towering scholar, a renowned public administrator, a development colossus and a calculating politician”.
He added that “Death had robbed Nandi County a reliable son whose contribution to development would be dearly missed by all”.

But such is life. And as the inimitable
Shakespeare wrote, life is a stage and we all have our entries and exits. Letting came on stage, played his role and has bowed out. What is left is for posterity and we pray that his soul rests well in peace.
