As part of COVID-19 response, the County Government of Nandi in partnership with DSW is working in our communities to provide sexual and reproductive health to community resource persons. Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and rights is a significant public health issue during the epidemics.

The County Government of Nandi is extending response to community members, to further educate people on the importance of sexual and reproductive health services for women and girls. We are sensitizing community response persons, to encourage young people and community members to stay educated and open to discussing sexual and reproductive health issues.

Today, County health officials held a sensitization workshop on Covid-19 and reproductive health for community resource persons in Tinderet Sub County attended by the Administration, teachers, youth, women and religious representatives. The sensitization is meant to equip the citizens in the county with knowledge on Covid-19 and reproductive health issues.

The COVID-19 pandemic poses particular threats to rural women who face greater difficultly in protecting themselves from transmission due to lack of information, resources, and access to social services. Women’s societal roles as caregivers, both within their own households and for others, places them at greater risk of infection and exacerbates the impact of COVID-19 in their lives.

It is also important to recognise that reproductive health issues may not be restricted to women, but that men may also suffer consequences.

“Today’s sensitization was important. We shared with community leaders the necessary preventative measures to reduce the spread and what to do when people start showing symptoms of the disease,” said Jane Samoei, County Health Advocacy Officer.

Also present were Japhet Ruto, County Disease Surveillance officer and Rachel Rop, County EPI Coordinator and health Officials from Tinderet Sub County.
