The county government of Nandi continues to give emphasis, the programs that deal with persons living with disabilities(PWDs).Today, the county government joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Day for Disability held at the Kapsabet Bible College grounds.

Through the Department of Gender, Social Welfare, Culture, Sports, Youth Affairs and Art,the county government reported on and reaffirmed commitment towards significant efforts it has made in line to ensure that Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) receive the attention they deserve.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor, Dr.Yulita Mitei, stated that the county government of Nandi has put measures to ensure PWDs are involved in all development agendas, having representatives in every sector.Regarding employment, nearly all PWDs previously serving under contract have been confirmed as permanent and pensionable employees. “The few that may not have been sorted out are on the pipeline”, said the Deputy Governor.

The county has also partnered with various humanitarian groups and organizations in the quest to raise awareness on all the issues of representation and welfare of PWDs in the county. Together, the collaboration has facilitated many PWDs across all subcounties in obtaining assistive devices and accessing other necessities that ease their day to day lives.

The county government of Nandi is alive to existing challenges in our society as far as PWDs are concerned. Members of the community are therefore encouraged to assist the administration in identifying PWDs so they can be registered. By doing so,this registration will facilitate their enlistment for possible assistance according to their specific needs.Additionally,the PWDs will benefit from their constitutional rights such as exemption from taxes.

Also present during the event was Nandi County Women Representative Hon. Cynthia Muge, Dominic Tullo-Director Ministry of Gender and Social welfare, CECMs from the Department of Gender, Social Welfare, Culture, Sports, Youth Affairs and Arts and Health and Sanitation respectively, among other distinguished leaders in the community.
