ENHANCING FARMERS FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

A four day training organized by the National Agricultural & Rural Inclusive Growth Project, NARIGP in collaboration with the County Government of Nandi on effective Financial Management for Community Driven Development Committees (CDDCs) & Social Accountability and Integrity Committees (SAIC) drawn from NARIGP beneficiary Common Interest Groups (CIGs) from Tinderet and Nandi Hills Sub-Counties comes to a close.

This was aimed at enhancing the farmers’ Financial Management skills in terms of making right financial decisions at the community level. This is because Financial literacy is an important and crucial aspect to ensuring Community CDDSs diligently utilize and manage community grants received from the project.

Participants were taken through finance topics including Budgeting, Accounting, Procurement, Bookkeeping, Bank Operation, Auditing, Monitoring and Evaluation by the NARIGP officials in order to instill in them best financial practices while implementing community projects.

On 29th July 2019, Nandi Governor H.E Stephen Sang presented cheques to the first beneficiary Community Driven Development Committees (CDDSs) amounting to Ksh 7.5 Million who are expected to drive community projects on behalf of the CIGs.

According to the project coordinator Mr. Jared Mutai, close to hundred small scale farmers organized in the four selected value chains namely Irish Potato, Dairy, Avocado and Poultry benefited from the training. Mr. Mutai noted that the training was an important exercise as it will enhances transparency, accountability and sustainability which help in attaining the project’s objective to increase Agricultural Productivity and Profitability. #TransformingNandi
